Vol. 3 No. 9 April 21st, 2007
Coming late summer 2007! We are proud to announce the next car in our long line of SP&S freight cars…the Caswell Woodchip Gondola, series 22800-22826. The Caswell Gondolas were purchased from the ATSF in July, 1956 for use as woodchip gondolas. The original cars were manufactured for ATSF in 1923-26. When purchased by the SP&S the cars were fitted with woodchip racks and assigned to Crown Zellerbach Paper in Camas, WA. Later, in 1965, the cars were reworked and stiffened for rotary dump service and assigned to Boise Cascade in St. Helens, OR. Most were off the road by merger. This car is being done by Intermountain Railway as RTR in six road numbers. Price TBA. For detail on these cars refer to the SP&SHS “Northwest’s Own Railway” issue #4, 2004. Quantities are very limited, so order soon.
Coming late 2007! It just keeps getting better! Athearn has finally agreed to de-skirt the Genesis F7, so we are back on track for our next SP&S locomotive release, F7 #803 and 804. Detail will be correct, with piping visible due to removal of the skirting as the units were shopped. The paint scheme will be the oxide roof with the yellow “mask” extending over the windshield area. Refer to “SP&S Railway Color Pictorial” by Todd Schwenk, top of page 127, for a color picture. These units are going to be offered with or without sound, the price TBA. We need to know from all of you what you would like to have, sound or no sound? If you have already reserved yours, please call and let us know. If you are just placing a reservation, please specify with or without sound. Thank you.
