Become a Member
of The Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club
Experience opportunities and learn 'hands-on' fun in a
modeling environment
that you'd otherwise only read about in a magazine
The Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club now has openings available for new
members. You can
be part of the operation of one of the largest model railroads on the West
Coast. Imagine a large
model railroad in a 60 ft. by 72 ft. room, with opportunities to work with and
learn from others
about building models, doing scenery, running trains, improving our building,
and being a part of
activities with the other members.
Founded in 1947, the Club moved into the new building in 1983. It is still
growing and developing,
keeping up with the latest developments in the hobby, but at the same time
remaining a friendly
group. Here, you can participate in an environment where you can learn hands-on
about aspects
of the hobby that you'd otherwise only read about in magazines.
Current projects are to replace or Operator's control position and one of our
dispatch panels.
DCC is currently being installed throughout the club, over the next couple of
years. So far we've
had great success in converting one branch line to DCC.
Train dispatching is by CTC, with professional equipment made from modern
materials, but looks
like it belongs on the railroad.
If you're interested in membership in this fascinating, active organization,
we are seeking
members with a desire to get involved. It doesn't matter how much model railroad
experience you
have. What matters is a desire to participate in club activities, to operate and
work on a large HO
model railroad, and to have fun.
Our events and activities in each year involve a Winter/Spring group dinner
at a restaurant
together with our spouses as guests; several operating sessions at the Club with
scouts as
guests; preparing for and executing our annual open house in November, and our
Christmas
party. We meet every Tuesday except for major holidays.
Memberships are open to anyone 12 years old or older, and we offer different
levels of
involvement. Cost is very reasonable for all classes. Here are out levels of
membership;
The Columbia Gorge Club is the largest club in the region and is available to
you if you want to
join. Drop by for a no-obligation visit and tour our layout and clubhouse and
get all the details
from one of our Membership Committee.
Come see us any Tuesday evening at 7pm in our building at 2505 N. .Vancouver
Avenue in
Portland, Oregon. Our telephone is (503) 28-TRAIN.
